Peter Kolisnyk – My Story
My story began years before being a Realtor in Oakville was even a thought. Having enjoyed a very successful career in international business, Oakville was merely just a place to call home. I enjoyed time with family and friends but was somewhat disconnected from the community.
Over the years, as the business landscape changed and the wear and tear of business travel set in, I made the conscious decision to create a new career in the community where I had lived for more than 25 years. Although I had coached my children’s various sports teams and helped out in supporting local charities, I now had a strong desire to get more involved.
While considering options, I searched for two things: 1) to learn more about the Halton region, and 2) put my 30+ years of marketing and sales to good use.
Growing up in a small rural town east of Toronto, the local YMCA left a lifelong indelible mark, which I didn’t fully appreciate until I had the opportunity to join the Oakville Board of Directors in 2010. Whether helping to create the strategic business plan, support facility development or helping to organize the annual Fill The Bus campaign, my Y experience was exactly what I needed to become grounded in our beautiful community.
Currently, as Chairman of the Board, I’m very excited for the years ahead that will see many positive changes for the Oakville community.
By extension of the YMCA outreach, I became involved with Home Suite Hope, a Halton charity that helps homeless single parents and their children break the cycle of poverty. I joined the Board in 2013 and became Chairman later that year.
Every day I am humbled by the efforts of the hard-working staff and volunteers of this incredible organization who have managed to more than quadruple the number of families it supports in a short period of time. The hard truth, though, is it also exposes the level of poverty right here among us.
While there is much work still to be done, thanks to the generosity of so many, I am proud to be the catalyst in raising awareness for Home Suite Hope’s great work, or fundraising, by competing in Ontario’s 1st Muskoka Ironman in 2015, recently sleeping in a car for 7 nights, and this coming Fall 2018 helping to organize a much larger fundraising event at Oakville Infinity for a 1-night Don’t Sleep In Your Car event.
Why Real Estate
While our local charities will always be near and dear to my heart, it’s the incredible people that make Oakville so much more than just my home. Whether volunteering for the YMCA or Home Suite Hope, the chance to serve my community has become the obvious choice.
Real estate has been a wonderful opportunity to combine my many years of sales and marketing, exceptional client service, and negotiating expertise right here in my local environment.
Nothing is more satisfying than developing a sound strategic plan for my clients and watching it come to fruition.
