Back to School and Back to Fall – Schools and Activities to Get in the Autumn Spirit!

The passing of the Labour Day long weekend along with the steady drop in temperature means that Autumn is officially in the air. And with that, we’re ready to go back to school! I know, it’s crazy that it’s already that time of year. Thankfully in Oakville, there’s a lot to look forward to when it comes to schooling.

As we’ve mentioned in the past, Oakville is known across Canada for its exceptional schooling opportunities. Whether you’re looking for English-only Core-French, French Immersion or Full-French programs, within Public, Independent or Catholic school boards,  Oakville has the perfect fit for your child at any age since many of our elementary and secondary schools continue to top the charts across the province.

If your child needs a little extra help in certain subjects, tutoring is plentiful. Oakville Ontario Sylvan Learning Centre is one of the renowned teaching centers, while Tutor Bright is another.

Now that school has started, so have after school programs! The Oakville Back To School Guide, which suggests a whole bunch of activities, was sent out to homes in the area at the end of August, but don’t worry if you missed it! You can also find it here.

Is it too soon to start planning for Thanksgiving weekend?  Apple or pumpkin picking around the Halton region is one of our favourite activities for the family year after year. Here’s a whole list of farms with plenty to pick all autumn long as a part of Halton’s Pumpkin to Pastries Trail. Ps. Some of them, like Andrew’s Scenic Acres, have wine tasting too—there really is something for everyone!

Speaking of planning…

Now is also a good time to start planning for winter activities, as classes and camps start to fill up sooner than you’d think! Of course there’s everything from hockey and skating to arts and crafts, but there’s also plenty activities that might not first come to mind! Air Riderz—which has half and full day option—gets campers jumping and climbing, while Rock and Wave Day Camp (run by The Town of Oakville) has them swimming and rock climbing. Don’t forget about Rising Sun Martial Arts and the ever popular Robotics Day Camp!
