Summer is finally here and although we are expecting more rain in the forecast, our fingers are crossed for a beautiful season. With day time temperatures creeping up to the 20’s and 30 degrees, it’s time to pack away your winter gear spruce up your home for the warmer season!
Last year was all about Scandinavian design, while this year we’re seeing bolder, brighter choices—and lots of green. The 2017 Pantone Colour of the Year is “Greenery,” a refreshing green with hints of yellow that “that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” It’s time to go 50 shades of green and find the shade that fits your space: try accents of lime, emerald, or forest.
As with every summer, we’re seeing a lot of white on white. Raw, textured white sets this summer apart by embracing imperfection. Let loose and put behind ideas of perfection in every aspect of your home – it’s time to go au naturale! Look for chalky, bone white accents and organic shapes when hunting for new pieces. Industrial glamour is also in with Edison bulbs, bronze and brass, and marbleize motifs popping up all over the décor-sphere.
In the tech domain, homes keep getting smarter and smarter. Clapping your lights on and off is in the past and the voice-activated devices are the now. Functional and beautiful is possible: check out Netatmo for some of the latest home technology and Ikea’s smart nightstand.
Décor and fashion trends often go hand in hand and this Summer season is no exception. Faux leather and suede are flooding stores as faux wood, foliage, and faux-textured (like exposed brick) wallpapers make their way into houses. Wallpaper has been trending for a year or so already, but this year, we’re taking things to the next level with fearless textures, geometric patterns and all-over floral designs. Tropical prints are also taking fashion and décor by storm. And it’s a great way to enhance a summer stay-cation!
Last, but not least, upholstered bedheads are making a comeback! Our favourite part of this trend is the DIY potential and the many available options. Nailhead detailing can be done at home to add some pop to a tired headboard, opt for a lux velvet headboard, or go classic with button detailing on a neutral colour!
